This is because... "God is love..." (I John 4:8b)
And He says, "I d you with an everlasting love..." (Jeremiah 31:3b)
But the same Bible which tells us that God loves us, also tells us that...
He says...
"...I will by no means clear the guilty..." (Exodus 34:7b)
And therefore...
God loves us and doesn't want to punish us, but He is just and must punish sin.
